Classic Car Junk Yards are scattered across the USA and are becoming a
thing of the past. The classic cars that are located in junk yards are becoming picked
over as time goes on. The days of finding a restorable GTO, Chevelle Super
Sport, Mustang or a Mopar Muscle car in a junk yard are almost over. There are some junk yards that have many
old cars that are near complete, but most of these classic cars are 4 door
sedans and not the desirable muscle cars. Muscle cars found in junkyards are
usually just left over shells. There is one web site that has a
tour of over 3000 Classic Cars.
This junkyard is one of the largest old car junkyards and is located in the
North Georgia Mountains. Another good junk yard for antique and classic parts is
Desert Valley Auto Parts in Arizona.

Above is a very rare classic car still in a junkyard (as of 2007).
This is an original 1970 Pontiac GTO 455 Car with rare options,
including power windows. This rare classic car has been robbed
of the entire power-train and probably has severe rust on the
underside from
sitting directly on the ground for so many years. |
 |
Above is 1965 Impala Super Sport with a
large tree growing up through the radiator core support. In fact
this car is right behind the GTO above. Right behind this one is
the hull of a 1967 Chevelle SS. |
 |
Here is a 1973 Dodge Challenger RT. This
is a rare classic car that still has many parts left on it. It
appears that it might have been a 340 car. |
 |
Here is a 1969 Mustang Mach 1. This
classic car looks like it was in pretty good shape when it was
placed in the yard years ago. It's a shame to see it going to
waste. |
Many of the old cars resting in
Junk Yards have
been there quite some time. Some have trees growing up through them.
One 1956 Buick that I was photographing had raccoons nesting in
it. The 1968 Dodge Super Bee shown on the right has a large
Sweet gum tree growing out of the engine compartment. Some of
the cars are totally hidden
from vegetation. One 1967 GTO resting in the same yard was
squashed by a large tree. |
 |
The photos in the yard tour not only show a
collection of cars, but they also tell us quite a bit history by
the contents of the old cars, bumper stickers and license
plates. Some cars from the 1960's and 1970's have Barbie dolls
and other toys still laying in the seats. The photo on the
right is from a City Of Cartersville Dodge truck. Perhaps it was
common for vehicle of that vintage to have a Georgia Certified
City logo on it. |

Over the years many of these
classic cars start missing parts. Some parts get sold , but many
are stolen. The photo to the right is an early 1970s Dodge
Challenger. These photos were taken at Old Car City USA. The
first photo was taken in November 2002 and the second photo was
taken in December 2003. During this time the yard owner had no
one working from him pulling parts. After taking pictures in
this yard twice, I have seen many parts disappear. Most of the
parts are emblems and other small items. |
